Anne Shirley was a talkative 13-year-old orphan who was very jolly and bright. Her imaginations touched the sky and she had a really full of happiness and joy. She was adopted by Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert at the Green Gables. Matthew got fond of her but Marilla decided to return her to the orphanage since they wanted a boy. However, she agrees to try out Anne for one week when Anne promised to be productive on the farms. Their neighbour Mrs. Lynde called her skinny and redhaired which made her indignant and she lost her temper. Afterwards, she was asked to apologise to Mrs. Lynde by Marilla and Matthew. When the Barrys invite them to tea, Anne meets their daughter Diana. They both became quite intimate and promise to be best friends forever.
When they return home, Marilla asks Anne to keep her scarf and her treasure brooch which made her playful. Later when Marilla is unable to find the brooch, she interrogates Anne harshly and suspects that she had stolen it. She threatened her to send her back to the orphanage if she would not tell the truth. When Anne insisted harder about not taking the brooch, Marilla sends Anne back. However, the moment she finds the brooch which had slid into the cushions, she sent Matthew for Anne. But it was too late was the train in which Anne was in had already departed. However, later Mathew brings he back home.
Anne joins the school but she was not prepared for the bullying that took place. Anne not very sure of going to school. Diana runs to Anne for help when her little sister becomes ill Marilla and Matthew take the vow to do anything for saving their farm. This instils a feeling of strength of love and friendship in Anne’s heart.
The gold fever continues in the town and Anne seemed to have found a wholesome spirit. Cole is a boy who stand out from the rest and becomes Anne’s friend. The town hall meeting votes to keep Miss Stacy as the teacher of Anvolea. Aunt Josephine allows Cole to stay with her. Later, Bash and Mary gets married.
Anne turns 16 and she wants to discover her birth parents. Matthew and Marilla were not very sure of letting Anne go for her new quest. Later when she was denied of the permission to seek out =for her birth parents, Anne is seen to sob and cry, blaming the Cuthberts as “heartless”.
