YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell created Young and the Restless : an American television soap opera. The show is set in a fictionalized version of Genoa city, Wisconsin.
The show was first broadcast on March 26,1973 and is now being broadcast internationally too.
Phillip Chancellors are the major characters of Y&R.
#1 THERE ARE 4 PHILIP CHANCELLORS ON Y&R (BUT ONLY THREE ON SCREEN).
Introduction of Phillip Chancellor || onscreen occurred back in the early 70s. Phillip #1 never came onscreen but is described as a part of the character biography of Phil. 2. Phil #1 is Katherine’s father-in-law, but he never appeared the CBS soap.
Phillip Chancellor was presented on screen from Nov 1973 until his death in Aug 1975. Then, he came back 2 decades later in July 1998 for a scene of what Phillip ||’s life would have been, had he lived. He died due to a car crash .
#2 PHILIP || NEVER HAD A CHILD WITH KATHERINE ON YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
Y&R old-time viewers know that Katherine and Philip never had a child for together in their 2 years of togetherness. Katherine had 2 children, Brock Reynolds, with Gary Reynolds. And, she had Tucker McCall, Son of Judge Arthur Hendricks.
Phillip and Katherine had lots of love and pain together, and struggles before her anger took his breath away.
She begged that she don’t want the marriage to end, but he insisted. So, it led to his death on Y&R as she almost killed herself and did kill him.
#3 JILL ABBOT GAVE BIRTH TO PHILLIP ||’S ONLY SON THAT IS PHILLIP |||.
Y&R then introduced the 3rd Phillip Chancellor after his father’ s death. Jill Abbott ( JESS WALTON) was under pregnancy with his child when he died. Infact Phil#1 married Jill on his deathbed and then got expired from the crash injuries. The marriage is invalid but it’s a soap.
So, Phillip 3 entered the show in 1976. Then he got the soap SORAS ( Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome) treatment. Thom Bierdz was seen in the role mostly. He faked his death but is now found alive. That fake death leads to another Y&R plot.
#4 CANE ASHBY PRETENDED TO BE PHILLIP ||| FOR YEARS ON YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS.
Y&R brought Cane Ashby (Daniel Goddard) to pose as Phillip Chancellor ||| on the screen in 2007. It later turned out that the real #3 requested him to fake in his absence. Back in the day, Philip ||| was overwhelmed with life, and a near-fatal car crash gave him the chance to run away.
Then on Y&R, Philip ||| convinced Cane to pretend like him to make Kay and Jill happy. After a few years, the Philip Chancellor ||| came back to town and out of the closet. The fact that he was gay might be another reason that he went into hiding. Now he is mentioned at rare times on Y&R.
#5 PHILIP IV IS THE ONLY ONE AROUND NOW-AKA CHANCE CHANCELLOR ON Y&R.
Donny Boaz played the role of 4th Phillip on the CBS soap. His father was #3, but he grew up without him because of the faked death of his father. Grown up Phillip Chancellor IV is known as the Chance Chancellor who joined the army and fought in Iraq.
When he got back from the war on Y&R, his presumed-dead father was back, but Chance said he’d stick with the man who raised him as his father.
Later, they reconciled but then Philip #4 “died” and went into witness protection. Now Philip #3 and #4 are on good terms.
And Chance is back in GC on Y&R. These days, though we see the classic episodes, so this is just a little help to see on other Phillip Chancellors in the coming weeks in CBS flashback theme weeks.
