Hello again.
How do you feel about time travel ??.
It has always boggled my mind with all it’s complications.
I am sure that you must have thought of time travel atleast twice in your life.
So, let’s talk about a Netflix series that took the world by storm; Dark.
Yes, the German Netflix original series.
Today we’ll be discussing Dark season 3: Everything you should know already…
Here we go!
The first German Netflix original series Dark was released on 1st December 2017. It is co-created by Jantje Frieze and Baran bo Odar. The series is met with positive response and instantly compared to Stranger Things. (….yep it’s that spooky and good…).
Rotten Tomatoes gave the first season with 10 episodes an 89%. That is really good for a new series. Season 2 was released on 21st June 2019 (…an important date peeps!!!…).
This season got an instant 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, Dark fans just can’t wait for the third season.
Plotline:
The outline of Dark is anything but simple.
Honestly, it is never as simple as Back to the future would make you think. (…Back to the future is cool…i love it but it’s not sensible….).
When you mess with time, you create possibilities and loops. They don’t always turn out to your favour mate. Dark is a prime example of that.
In the seemingly uninteresting German town of Winden with an almost shutdown Nuclear plant, lies a wormhole.
The story of Dark is set in motion when teenager Jonas Kahnwald’s father Mikkel commits suicide and he is unable to deal with it. (…who would be able to?…). The other three families involved in the story are Nielsens, Tiedemanns and Doppler’s. Erik, their school’s local marijuana dealer (…I don’t support drug abuse in any way…) goes missing.
Jonas goes searching for him with his friends at Erik’s cave near the power plant but spooked by the flickering lights and sounds they retreat.
However, they forget pre-teen child Mikkel Nielsen behind and he too disappears only to find himself transported to 1986.
The plot gets thicker and sinister as more children disappear with our main leads trying to investigate them. Jonas does find the wormhole which lets you travel 33 years back and forth in time.
But things only get messier with more complicated characters and the effects of their actions on time.
The people of Winden keep getting confused with birds and lambs dying with their eardrums ruptured.(…sign of extreme pressure fluctuations….but in nature, not their bodies…).
End of season 2 of Dark:
By the end of the second season’s 8 episodes, we already know that there will be multiple versions of our characters traveling through time.
We have characters remaking the device in different times and changing things. We have murders, evil intentions and blind faith.
Throw in an apocalypse set to take place on 27th June 2020 and Jonas racing literally against himself to make things right.
Moral dilemmas, selfish actions complicating time and a lot of tense moments.(…this is why people should not be trusted with time….they always complicate things to the point of destruction…) Dark is very gripping and to get through it you have to be really attentive.
The time conspiracy spans over three generations and now we only have a very confused Jonas as our hope.
Dark season 3 trailer:
The creators of the show dropped the news of the third season and the trailer on 26th May 2020. Check it out :
So, as you probably might know already, Dark season 3 drops on apocalypse day.
Yep on 27th June 2020.
This is something I find really cool; for the seasons to release on dates important in the world of the story.
All our questions are to be answered in this supposed final season.
Expect a lot of revelations and more thrilling adventures through time.
In the trailer of Dark season 3 we see the three versions of Jonas come together and talk of a last cycle. We also see Martha (…Jonas’s love interest and a main character…).
She however, only mentions that she is not just from a different time but a different world entirely. (…Are we talking parallel universes here??!!!!!…).
Martha says he’ll understand everything when it’s time to understand.
That’s it people, I can’t wait for the 3rd season.
Dark is available on Netflix in German but it’s got subtitles.
Please go and stream this beautiful work of Sci-fi noir.
Thank you.
