Superheroes are a part and parcel of every kid’s life. Some people stop their obsession in a few years while some stay loyal to their idols forever. Batman, Spider-Man and Superman are what we have all known but Wonder Woman is the super heroine who are all obsessing about right now. The portrayal of a woman as a superhero is definitely a step forward in the thought process of human beings.

While Wonder Woman appeared as supporting character in other superhero movies, in 2017 all that changed. A movie was made showcasing only Wonder Woman and her story. Wonder Woman was also written as a comic character among superheroes but was never given a main spot but now the time has come. Directed by Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot was casted as Wonder Woman. The movie made over $821 million dollars worldwide and became the 10th highest grossing movie of 2017.
Gal Gadot has said in The Ellen Show that after six weeks of audition she didn’t receive a phone call. One day, when she was sitting on a plane, she got a call from her agent saying that she was going to be the next Wonder Woman. She described the scene and said that she was absolutely ecstatic and couldn’t believe it. After the huge success of the movie, a sequel for the movie was decided. However, the plot line and even whether it was a sequel or a prequel was left to the director.
Wonder Woman 1984:
The Wonder Woman 1984 is set to be the sequel of the previous movie. Director Jenkins has said that this movie is neither prequel or a sequel but just a next iteration for Wonder Woman. As the title suggests, the movie is set in 1984 during Cold War. Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman is matured, lonely and calm and has to fight a media businessman named Max Lord played by Pedro Pascal. We can also see the concept of friends turning to enemy in this movie. Barbara Ann Minerva aka Cheetah played by Kristen Wiig first acts as a friend to Diana Prince but soon turns into a betrayer where the reason is unknown.
The shooting of the movie took place in London, America, Canary Islands and Spain and wrapped up in July, 2017. The movie was first scheduled to release in June 5 of 2020 but because of the corona pandemic, the release of the movie was postponed. Right now, Warner Brothers have announced the release date and it is going to August 14. The producers of the movie believe that normalcy during the time of corona will be achieved by then. The movie will not be released in Israel as per the previous movie because of Gal Gadot’s last as an Israeli soldier.
Jenkins, the director of the movie Wonder Woman explained on why she took the ‘80s as an inspiration for the movie while Jenkins replies that that was the time when the mankind was both best and worst. Gadot says on Wonder Woman 1984, “in this one, she’s been around. She’s much wiser and mature and lonely… and then something crazy happens that changes the whole game.”

In this movie, one of the main character is Steve Trevor played by Chris Pine. Though we saw him dying in a flight blast in the previous movie, he is back looking ever so handsome and also the boyfriend of Wonder Woman. As the movie is set in 1984, we see the past of every characters and their emotions. We also see Kristen Wiig in a negative role after posing as a friend to Diana Prince. The antagonist of the movie is Max Lord played by Pedro Pascal who is a rich media businessman. Other than a couple of side characters, these are the main characters of the movie along with Diana Prince and Steve Trevor.
