Home and Away is an Australian television soap opera. It was produced by Alan Bateman and began being aired on the Seven Network on 17 January 1988. Bateman came up with the thought of this show during a trip to Kangaroo Point, New South Wales. There he saw locals were complaining about the construction of a foster home. And against the idea of foster children from the city living in the area. The soap opera was earlier going to be named Refuge. But the name was switched to the “friendlier” name of Home and Away.
The show premiered with a ninety-minute pilot episode (subsequently in re-runs and on VHS known as Home and Away: The Movie). Since then, each succeeding episode has aired for a duration of twenty-two minutes and Home and Away has become the second longest-running drama series in Australian television. In Australia, it is currently aired from Mondays to Thursdays at 7:00 pm.
It is surely not like any other show you have ever seen. Give it a chance and it will leave you addicted. Apart from its storyline and ever-evolving plots, its characters and performers are riveting and also very entertaining. This is not like any other reality or fiction television series, its concept, story and setting is what makes it so different from other television series.
The setting of the show
Home and Away is set in Summer Bay, a fictional seaside town of New South Wales. Areas within the town include the beach, a high school, diner, bait shop, garage, and a surf club, which includes a gym, small kiosk, and an upstairs restaurant. Actors in the show live in neighboring areas such as the Summer Bay House, Summer Bay Caravan Park, Beach House, The Farmhouse, Pier Flat, and Saxon Avenue. Different towns are made up and mentioned. Sometimes seen in Home and Away are Mangrove River and Yabbie Creek. These different places all together make you believe in this verisimilitude, almost thinking that all this is true.
The set and places are very fascinating and pretty. Home and Away broadcasted four new episodes in Australia this week, which saw Jasmine Delaney’s worrying behavior continue and Leah Patterson-Baker endured a sad new setback. Each episode comes with so many twists and turns. And something new is happening each time. If you have never seen it, you are missing out on a lot of things.
Here are a few big questions we have been left with after the latest episodes. Get ready to dive into some serious information about the story, show, and cast.
Every new week and episode comes with another set of troubling signs that something is not quite right with Jasmine. This beloved character has endured a terrifying time in recent months, losing her partner Robbo and then enduring a false pregnancy which left her completely devastated and crushed. If that’s not enough, her mental health is staggering.
However this week, Jasmine proceeded to focus all of her energy on baby Grace, seeing the little one as her last remaining link to Robbo. It was very upsetting to see her. She lost herself in reality. And she sent messages on a mother’s group, writing as though Grace is her own child. Sad isn’t it?. Apart from this strange situation, she has a lot on her plate. She still needs to realize that Grace is not her own and she also needs to get over Robbo.
Jasmine often referred to herself as Grace’s mother, while painting Tori as a supposed “sister-in-law” who was causing trouble. She really is trying to be normal. But it is evidently clear that Jasmine is still far from being okay and level headed. What else can we expect from jasmine and her current situation?.
Even though Leah has not been grievously harmed after intervening with the mystery thief. The emotional fallout from the event may be a lot greater. Surely, it has taken a toll on her mentally and emotionally. Leah has only just gotten better and still on the journey to get her life back on track. After being held captive by corrupt Douglas for numerous weeks. She has a lot going on for herself and still needs to make her peace with her past and future.
Leah’s upcoming crisis might result in bringing her trauma back to her current reality again, which will hurt her or might cause more damage. Leaving her with a new obstacle to defeat. Is her mental health going to be affected in the episodes to come?
3. Bella’s improvement
Bella came back to Summer Bay with a new perspective after spending time away at her therapy center. She addressed letters for numerous of her loved ones, which exposed some big choices. Bella’s letter for Colby consisted of her urging him to quit being so overprotective. And let her live her life rather than suppressing her. Can you blame her for wanting to take her own decisions?. While her letter for Nikau explained that she is not available for a relationship.
Also, Nikau struggled to accept Bella’s judgment. Most of the Summer Bay locals were in agreement that her time away had done her and her health much good. Is it possible to see a brand new Bella moving ahead? Will she be this headstrong or succumb to her thoughts like earlier?
4. Tane really broke into the Diner?
The episode that aired on June 11 concluded with a mystery figure crashing into the Diner to steal cash, knocking over Leah when she ignorantly interrupted. It is unknown and there has been no evidence of who was responsible for this act. But the end-of-episode promo showed that newcomer Tane Parata will be the first character to come under suspicion. Strangely it makes some sense, but we do not know for sure.
Tane has been associated with strange dealings in the past and has left his family puzzled over how he is supporting their new leased home. Is Tane about to be wrongly accused or is there more to the story? Is he the thief or suspect we are looking for?
5. Is there any hope left for Maggie and Ben?
At the beginning of the week, Ben, and his new love affair Gemma admitted that it was not the best time for them to proceed in a relationship. Indeed, the damage had already been done as far as a disapproving Nikau.
Later the Summer Bay locals gathered together to watch Evan’s gig at Salt, Nikau’s behavior almost ruined the event as he openly confronted his mother for spending a night at Ben’s motel room (even though nothing happened between them).
Maggie was crushed to overhear this revelation and a series followed between her and Ben. She shoved him to explain why he was struggling to get over the Marco drama and inquired whether he was just using it as an excuse to get out of their marriage. Maggie’s outbreak left Ben perplexed, but he has an expectation of a happier outcome for the Astonis been lost? What even happened? we are baffled too.
Following the next several days of denying to let Marilyn visit him at the hospital, John finally yielded this week and allowed her to start supporting him. Tori and John both urged Marilyn to think carefully before committing herself to the role of his caregiver following his stroke. And especially since their marriage was on such rocky ground beforehand, which could have resulted in more issues than earlier.
In a moving scene, Marilyn recalled John of their marriage vows and vowed to be there for him – in sickness and in health, might we add, that was very touching. Will John and Marilyn succeed to get their marriage back on track in such challenging times? Or will this result in a bigger spat?.
According to IMDb, This show chronicles the lives, loves, happiness, and heartbreaks of the residents of Summer Bay (a small coastal town just outside of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia). But there is much more to this show. Each character and their life story, challenges, sadness, and feelings will make you empathize. At the end of the day, they too are just humans, portraying normal people with challenging lives. Home and Away is truly unusual, engrossing, and exciting to watch especially during this quarantine.
We hope you enjoy watching this show. And it will definitely entertain you throughout. These questions are going to give you some clarity on what to expect from this show. And it will evidently help clear your doubts about these compelling characters.
